UW-Superior Announces

The University of Wisconsin-Superior has highlighted a range of financial support options for international students planning to study in the United States. The university says more than 90% of eligible international undergraduate students qualify for scholarships ranging from $5,900 to $8,100 per year.

The financial support is designed to reduce the cost of attending UW-Superior and give international students several ways to manage tuition, housing and other education-related expenses.

UW-Superior Expands Financial Support for International Students

UW-Superior provides financial awards to degree-seeking international undergraduate students who meet its admission requirements. The university’s main tuition assistance comes through its Nonresident Tuition Waiver (NTW) program.

Eligible students are automatically considered for the NTW program, meaning a separate application is not required for the award. The amount depends on academic performance and whether the applicant is entering as a first-year or transfer student.

For the 2026–27 academic year, qualifying students can receive either a $5,900 annual tuition waiver or an $8,100 NTW Scholar Award.

2026–27 Costs After the Tuition Waiver

UW-Superior estimates that tuition and fees for international undergraduate students would normally total $18,155 for the academic year. After the NTW award, tuition and fees can fall to $12,255, while students receiving the higher NTW Scholar Award would pay an estimated $10,055.

The university estimates room and meals at $7,945 for the year. Including required health insurance and orientation costs, the estimated total comes to $22,710 for students receiving the standard NTW Award and $20,510 for those receiving the NTW Scholar Award.

These figures are based on the university’s estimated 2026–27 expenses and do not include every possible personal or academic expense.

Academic Performance Determines the NTW Award

The level of tuition support is connected to a student’s academic record. First-year students with a GPA between 2.90 and 3.39 can qualify for the $5,900 NTW Award, while those with a GPA of 3.40 or higher can qualify for the $8,100 NTW Scholar Award.

Transfer students with a GPA between 2.50 and 2.99 can receive the standard award, while transfer students with a GPA of 3.00 or higher may qualify for the Scholar Award.

The awards can be renewable for up to four years, or eight semesters, as long as students continue to meet the required conditions.

$8,400 YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship Also Available

In addition to the tuition waiver program, UW-Superior offers a #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship worth $8,400 per year to two qualifying students entering in the fall.

Applicants must complete the university’s international first-year application, have at least a 3.5 GPA on a U.S. 4.0 scale and demonstrate interest in leadership and intercultural learning.

Students can be considered for either an NTW award or the #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship, but not both. The university recommends submitting scholarship applications by May 1 for the fall semester.

Other Scholarship Support at UW-Superior

International students who have already started their studies at UW-Superior can also apply for scholarships supported by the UW-Superior Alumni and Friends Foundation.

The foundation offers more than 100 scholarships through different academic departments. According to the university, 55% of scholarship applicants were approved in the most recent year, with an average award of about $1,500.

This gives continuing international students another potential source of financial assistance after beginning their studies.

On-Campus Jobs Offer Another Way to Reduce Expenses

International students at UW-Superior can also look for on-campus employment. Students in F-1 status can generally work up to 20 hours per week while school is in session and full-time during scheduled breaks, subject to U.S. immigration rules.

Available campus jobs can include food service, Residence Life, tutoring and campus recreation. The university notes that student employment is not intended to cover all tuition and fees, but it can provide additional spending money and valuable campus experience.

For students considering UW-Superior, the combination of tuition awards, additional scholarships and on-campus employment can make planning for the cost of studying in the United States more manageable.
